My 50th Post!

My husband is out this evening losing money playing poker with some relatives, and I realized it is time for my 50th post!  So, I thought, why not write about 50 things you may not know about me.

But -

Doesn’t that sound endlessly long?

How about I try for 5?

1) I was born in Honolulu.  At this hospital.

800px-Tripler_Army_Medical_Center_aerial_view

2) I am very tall.  Just shy of 6 feet.  And yes, I played basketball.  Or I should say, I TRIED to play basketball.

3) I got married in Las Vegas at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel.  2003.

4) My husband is my best friend and just a fantastic father and partner.

And 2 out of 3 are happy, but it was cute so I had to roll with it.

5) My step-daughter is 13 and lives in San Diego.  Which is so much closer than where she used to live (North Carolina).  She is currently wondering how I am liking the Twilight books.  And I think I’ll be in trouble if I don’t!  :-)

Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend!

All This in a Week?

We have had a pretty busy week around this house.

We’ve been happy.

IMG_0663

And not so happy.

These 2 are NOT happy.

We’ve been teaching Eli the importance of avoiding outlets.

IMG_0705

We’ve met Mr. Hannah. Who looks a lot like Hannah, but talks with a deeper voice.

IMG_0707

We’ve been coy.

IMG_0711_edited-1

We’ve explored.

Everywhere.

IMG_0751

We’ve done ballet.

IMG_0789

On one particularly imaginative day:

  • Our house was a tree house.
  • We got stuck in the jungle and the firemen had to come rescue us.
  • Our kitchen was a swimming pool and Hannah splashed and splashed.
  • We had a visit from the Little Mermaid and Hannah invited her to stay for dinner.
  • Hannah caught fish and put them on our plates for dinner.
  • We watched Hannah perform several shows. One of which was a “jumping” show.

I am in awe of the imagination of a small child. Mommy doesn’t always want to “play” along, but I do my best.

I wonder what we are going to come up with next week.

Here is Hannah's interpretation of "smile like a princess".

Out of the Mouth of Babes

Hannah: "Mom, are we having salmon boogers tonight?"

We have been eating salmon a little more often these days, so this question get asked a lot.

And it never gets old.

Not Me! Monday

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else is not doing this week.

Well, let's see how this past week did not go for me.

I definitely have not been reaching for my daughter's tube of Princess Bubble Gum mint toothpaste, just because it's easier to reach than my regular toothpaste. And tastier.

I did not drop a can of pop on my foot, inciting such cries that my daughter came over and kissed my foot. Nope, not me.

I did not forget what I did to my son so quickly that I decided that, sure, I could cut Hannah's bangs. And I did not chicken out as soon as I had her in a chair all ready to go.

I certainly did not forget how messy biter biscuits can be!

And I definitely did not include this next picture just because I think I have one of the cutest babies in all of babyland...

Enough about me. I want to know what you did not do last week?

Random Picture Challenge 1

UPDATED: So I just realized I wasn't quite following the rules when I posted the Random Picture Challenge. I was supposed to go to my August folder and pick the 30th picture! So, here it is. Another Hannah one - this time she is all ready to go to the beach with her Grammy for the weekend.

------------------------------------

Hannah, Sept. 2006. I found this one as randomly as I could with my eyes shut...and occasionally peeking to make sure I was hitting a folder in my pictures. If you want to play along visit 4 Little Men.

Blogging Addiction?

Well, that's a relief! I thought it was much worse than that. 62%. I can handle that. I knew I didn't need a 12-step blogging addiction program, contrary to what my hubby may think.

Thanks to A Nut in A Nutshell and The Adams Family for sharing their addictions, which, I must say are WAY worse than mine. :-)

Not Me! Monday

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

For my first entry in Not Me! Monday, I really had to come up with a few whoppers. Because, you see, I am pretty much perfect. So actually, these transgressions? Yep, NOT ME!

For starters, I did not attempt to cut my son's hair several times last week to get the long hair out of his eyes. If my baby is awake he is MOVING and it is impossible to cut his hair, so nope, not me. Those jagged lines - just a weird growth of baby hair.

And while we are on the subject of my son, I most certainly did not leave him on the living room carpet while I vacuumed the rest of the rug in a circle around him. And I definitely did not come close to running over his hand with the vacuum. And I did not leave the small circle where he was sitting untouched, because as I said before I am impeccably clean, and really I didn't need to vacuum in the first place.

I did not bribe my daughter with treats to get her to cooperate. Nope, Not Me! We only eat health food around here. I know because I recently threw out all the junk food. And it was definately NOT ME who resorted to eating a few cookie sprinkle toppings because I needed a sugar fix because someone threw out all the junk food. Nope. Not me. Which reminds me that I also did not eat most of my husband's box of licorice before he could get his hands on it. Must have been the cat.

Now that I am attempting to get back in shape, I can assure you I am NOT watching shows like "The Girls Next Door" and "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" while on the elliptical trainer. Nope, not me. I only watch shows that help me learn or grow as a person. I would never watch reality shows like those.

Weekend Welcome

Happy Friday! I got a new camera a few days ago, and finally got it out of the box and charged up. I have no clue how this camera works, but I'm a bright enough girl that I was able to take some trial shots.

The first picture:

And a few more (please note, that fuzzy mess in the background below is just a figment of your imagination. I am impeccably clean and tidy at all times).

Meet our dog, Baxter, doing his usual.

Couldn't resist one last shot of my little guy....he is more than willing to put up with all the picture taking. My daughter needs a little more coercing to smile for the camera these days.

Now the task at hand is to read all the manuals....there sure are a lot of them!
Wishing all of you a fantastic weekend!

How Fast They Grow

This little guy, shown here on his birthday, just had his 9-month check up today. He is up to 22.5 lbs (80th percentile) and is 30" tall (95th percentile).

The pediatrician told us that he will likely be somewhere between 6' and 6'4" when he is fully grown!

But really, I don't want to think about that yet. I'm liking 30" just fine.

It's a Bird, It's a Plane.....

It's SUPER Hannah! Ridding the Mighty M household of monsters, bears, ghosts, and anything else that might be scaring us at the moment since, well, since about a month ago. And only when the mood strikes.

Hannah cannot assume her super secret identity without her blankey cape, which comes in green or pink depending on which superhero color she needs.

Please note, Super Hannah does not do spiders.

9 Months

To my little guy.
To my buddy.
To my baby.
To my Eli.

Today you are 9 months old. How amazingly quick the time is passing. It is so wonderful to be home with you and watch you grow. I am going to try to cherish my remaining baby time with you, even during those dreaded middle of the night wake-ups.

Thankfully, we are down to two.

I can tell already you are going to be into everything. I see it in your eyes. You want what you can't have and you want it bad. Hannah's dolls. Daddy's newspaper. Mommy's hair. I know I only have a matter of days, maybe a few weeks, until you get the hang of this crawling thing. I will no longer be able to put you down and know you'll be within a 2 foot radius of that spot when I retrieve you. Up with the baby gates. It will be time to watch you constantly, ready to pull you back when you go after something you want, but can't have. Like the dog.

Your teeth are, finally, coming in fast and furious. Soon you will be able to eat those little crackers that are currently only these fascinating small toys I put on your highchair tray when I need to buy me some time.

One thing that hasn't changed is your scream. Boy, can you ever scream. Experts that advocate letting your child cry it out at night must never had to experience a cry like yours. Nevertheless, your exasperated and exhausted parents have finally been letting you cry. And you are learning to get back to sleep all by yourself.

Today you are 9 months old. Today you are sleeping about 15 hours a day. Today your hair is still as red as can be. Today you are already wearing size 18 months. Today you will play, roll, and attempt your slightly bouncy crawl that usually results in a stomach landing. Today you will scream. Today you will laugh.

Who knows what tomorrow will bring.

But even as you grow just know you will always be my baby boy.

Love you, Buddy.

Tool Time!

Nothing beats a nice nap after some hard work. Hannah thought her tools could use a break. Love the paper towel blanket!

Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. H!

My sister, older than me by almost 4 years; taller than me by over 1 inch; and depending on our moods, occasionally much blonder (or more brunette) than me got married today in a small, simple ceremony with as many people in attendance as I can count on one hand.

But the small, simple ceremony does not belie the magnitude of the day. Because "when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with someone, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible".

I could not be more thrilled for both of you. Welcome to the family, Jeff.

Working Whatta?

Daddy M got his very first issue delivered to his office just a few days ago. Someone's idea of a joke, or just an innocent mistake?

Nevertheless, Daddy M is getting in touch with his feminine side. Through October 2009!
