My Husband, the tri-athlete

The big day arrived.  My husband’s first triathlon. We were all anxious about the event, especially Hannah.

Getting ready for the swim to start.  Hannah and Macy are trying to locate Mickey.

And they’re off!  This is the first group of 5 and my husband is out there somewhere, although we didn’t realize it until he was getting out of the water.

A duck family wanted in on the action….

Eli clapped whenever the crowd did (which was a lot), cheering on the athletes.

Heading out on his bike (red helmet).  Go Mickey, go!

And he’s back after only 5 minutes.  A FLAT TIRE!!!

After a brief delay the bike portion of the race was completed.  Here he is coming back into the transition area (his other tire promptly blew when he jumped off the bike).

And, finally, on the home stretch of the run.

You did it!

Congratulations!  We are very proud of you!!

aloha friday #18

alohafriday

Okay, Friday is here again and that means it’s time for another round of Aloha Friday.

Since my daughter loves knock knock jokes, and I can’t remember more than  2 or 3 I am hoping you can help me out.

Do you know any good (kid friendly) knock-knock jokes??

Happy Friday!

“yes!”

IMG_4648

“Yes” to the success on her “computer”.

“Yes” to having Uncle Jason, Aunt Jaime, and Cousin Jacob here for the weekend.

"Yes” to gifts from Tutu.

“Yes” to having fun at preschool.

But by far the biggest “yes” of the week has been knowing that sister Macy is arriving tomorrow for the summer.

aloha Friday #17

alohafriday

It’s Aloha Friday again!  Already?  Where does the time go??

But wait, don’t answer that because my real question is below. If you want to play along leave your reply in my comment section!  And don’t forget to visit An Island Life!

My question for you:

What is the worst injury you ever had?

Pretty sure my worst injury was when I fractured the acetabulum (bone in hip) of my left leg.  I believe it was June of 2000.  It was a freak accident during an indoor co-ed recreational soccer game.  I was in the hospital for about a week and on crutches for 6.  And it was NOT FUN!

Hope I haven’t brought back too many painful memories!   :-)

Happy Friday!

I’ve been photo-tagged

Sandy at The Adam’s Family tagged me for a round of photo tag!!

The rules are to go to your 1st photo file and pick the 10th picture.

Okay, here goes:

Picture 057

Ah, yes. The “animal” folder. Chances are 100% if I pull a picture from my first folder it’s going to be of one of our pets.

This was taken in 2004, probably shortly after we got Baxter. He is hiding his head because he didn’t want his picture taken (still doesn’t care for it).

I will tag my sister for this one:

The Walters Family

Feel free to tag yourself if you want to play too!

nimbus

My cousin, who is attending college in town, graduated this past Saturday.

This brought some family to town, namely, my Aunt, Uncle, and Grandmother!

We were thrilled to be able to have everyone over for a barbecue Friday night.  It was fun showing them our home and we had a nice visit.

Saturday night we joined them for a graduation dinner at Nimbus.  I even have the oil and vinegar to prove it:

We had a great time!  Here was the view from our table (Nimbus is on the top floor of the tallest building in town):

We took lots of pictures!

Aloha friday #16

alohafriday

Welcome back for another round of Aloha Friday! I ask the question and you (if you are so willing) reply via my comments! If you want to play along, visit An Island Life.

My question this week:

What (or who) usually wakes you up in the morning?

I use my alarm clock, but almost always wake up before it goes off.

june 10th, 1999

Do you remember what you were doing a little after 5:00 on June 10th, 1999?

In Bellingham on this day in 1999 237,000 gallons of gasoline that had been silently leaking into Whatcom Creek from a ruptured underground pipeline were ignited by two 10 year old boys that were playing with a lighter by the creek.

The fumes had gotten strong and authorities had started evacuating the creek and surrounding park area by the time the explosion occurred.

But it was not enough. 3 people died, including those 2 boys (Wake King and Stephen Tsiorvas) as well as 18 year old Liam Wood who was fishing in the creek at that horrible moment.

I was on my way home after a dentist appointment. I do not recall hearing the boom, but the cloud in the sky was massive and scary. I realized it was over in the area of my work, so I actually started to drive towards the chaos. I didn’t get far. Traffic was at a standstill as people rushed away from the scene and/or paused to take it all in.

The explosion happened across the street from my place of employment. I heard many tales of how scary it was to feel such a boom, and be surrounded by so much smoke.

In the time following the explosion the smoke would clear, and most of us resumed our normal lives as we watched the area along the creek slowly come back to life.

The Olympic Pipeline Company and its owners would pay out 187 million dollars in fines and settlements, and for the first time ever pipeline company employees went to jail because of their unsafe practices.

10 years later, I don’t find myself thinking about this tragedy on a daily basis. But the beautiful park and creek as well as the newly opened Wade King Elementary School serve as permanent reminders of this devastating day.

comfortable

IMG_4295

My daughter started pre-school this past Friday.

She will go here in the fall for “official” preschool, so I figured she might enjoy taking their summer camp preschool a couple days a week so she will be fully acclimated and ready for the fall program.

On her first day she was a little apprehensive, but I assured her I would stay until she felt “comfortable”.

“Mom”, she would say as we talked about it, “it might take me a little while to get comfortable.  You might need to stay until I talk to a few people”.

I assured her I would stay. She continued to affirm that I would remain until she was comfortable.

After we arrived, she nervously exited the car and took my hand, walking with me inside the building.

We were immediately greeted by a very friendly gal who engaged Hannah and said it was “gym” time!!

Hannah followed after her without so much as a “bye, mom!” or even a glance in my direction.

I however lingered a few extra minutes, watching her play.

Turns out, I was the one who needed to get “comfortable”.

Welcome back for another round of Aloha Friday.  I ask the question and you (if you are so willing) reply via my comments!  If you want to play along, visit An Island Life.

My question this week:

What is the next movie you want to see (or think you might see) at the movie theater?

I am pretty sure I am going to take my daughter to see “Up” pretty soon.  I hardly ever go to the actual movie theater – what a treat!

Enjoy your weekend!!
