Champ

We met you in May of 2004 at the Humane Society. You were the only dog who could have cared less that there were humans walking around.  While all the other dogs barked and barked at us, you lay on the floor curled up and awake, yet quiet and uninterested.  We almost passed you by but after mentioning you to one of the employees they said you were a good boy and that we should take you out for a walk.  Once outside you perked right up and wanted to sniff everything and explore and didn't seem at all like the dog you were inside.  We were hooked. We agreed to take you home and took care of the necessary arrangements.  Your name was Champ because the Humane Society had picked you up on the side of the road, very injured in what they assumed was a fight with another dog.  We were told you were maybe two years old at most.  The Humane Society fixed you up and you healed like a, well, like a champ.  We decided to rename you Baxter. We brought you h...

It is a winter wonderland In Bellingham!  The kids, already off school today, were thrilled to wake up to all the white stuff.  Once I got them into about 4 layers of clothing they were ready to go play.

Last weekend we were sitting around with the kids realizing that is was going to be a very loooooong day unless we found something to do.  It is for this reason and this reason only that we actually thought “why not” when we saw that there was a cat show going on in town.  Better yet it was the “My Furry Valentine” cat show.  Perfect for the weekend before Valentine’s day. Here are some things we learned: 1)  For future purposes do not say cat “show” to Hannah.  Say something else like “demonstration” or “display”.  To Hannah a “show” means singing and dancing.  We had to explain that there would be no singing and dancing cats at this show.  She took the news well, and proceeded to dress properly for the show, um display. 2)  Although you will be surrounded by cats, you will not be allowed or able to touch ANY of them without being reprimanded by the owner.  These cat owners don’t want anything or anyone messing up their cat’...

Okay. I’ll tolerate this for a while. But I don’t have to like it.

Some of you may recall that last April our dog Baxter had a mast cell tumor removed.  If you don’t, here is a picture: As you can tell, he was thrilled with the lampshade look. Anyways, last week he had to have yet another mast cell removed, located pretty much in the same spot as before.  He did well with the surgery and after we brought him home he was too groggy to do much but rest. Hannah decided he needed a beach hat. He must have had that had on a good 45 minutes. Poor thing. This is what a beach hat looks like on a happy, willing model: Baxter is doing much better.  Hopefully the tumor is, like last time, nothing to worry about.

Tess

I am not exactly positive what our new cats name is. I thought I was told “Tessa”. But I have also heard “Tessie”, and “Tess” thrown around. My daughter has taken to calling her “T”. This has been T’s base of operation for the past week: Our guest room. See that little lump? Yep, that’s the cat. And now, her debut appearance: I was actually worried about how our other cat would react to T, but Tawny could care less. Tess is actually the one hissing and running from Tawny. But I am sure they will become friends, eventually. The dog also has no problem with either cat and proceeds to ignore them both as much as possible. Tess is coming out to visit much more often. She is very friendly. Baxter got his staples out today!! I am thrilled to be done with the cone head – he just could not figure out his new “width” and was constantly hitting things with his cone head. He has knocked over my kids more than once! And I can’t wait for him to have a bath!!! Baxter’...
