when your kids are sick

You need a good stock of this:

There is a LOT more of this than usual:

And you let them do things you would normally never do:

(at least they’re eating, something one of them hasn’t wanted to do much of lately.)

And when watching TV in the living room gets old, it is always great to mix things up:

With more TV.  In a different room.

But only when they’re sick.

Eli is actually the sick one.  Horrible cough and fever since Friday.  He seems to be on the mend (finally) today but is exhausted because the cough has been preventing quality sleep (that includes for parents too) and he has been VERY a little grouchy today.

In the last picture you will notice my nearly 3-year old boy still has his paci.  That is another thing I relented on this week.  Lately we only give it to him for sleeping but we’ve regressed with his illness.  Which is only going to make it harder when we take it away next month, one birthday present I don’t think he’s going to appreciate too much.

Hannah has a cough but it hasn’t developed into what her brother has been dealing with.

Yet.

Hopefully they will restock all the On Demand shows in case we have a round two around here soon.  I’m pretty well caught up on the lives of Fireman Sam, Dora the Explorer, Diego, Mickey Mouse, and the Scooby Doo gang.

Oh, and thanks for all the comments on Hannah’s drawing.  I was very impressed with some of your interpretations – some of which were very accurate!

Jacquie got the closest guess I think – but SHE IS Hannah’s preschool teacher so she does have an advantage!

So what you see is the sky (but since the sun is setting some of the clouds are reddish).  Below that you have a person on a hang glider, a hot air balloon, and an airplane in the sky.  At the bottom is the ocean (see the crab and the guy in the row boat?).  With a few spring flowers added for good measure.  Sorry to the rest of you who suggested it was a fighting mushroom scene, perhaps next time?

Sorry your little guy has been sick. Here's hoping he's better soon for everyone's sake. :) We've had lots of that LONG fever stuff around these parts, too, but it has luckily skipped our house so far. I'm praying it stays away from our house forever. Thanks for the picture commentary...great drawer she is. :) I was way off, huh? LOL!

This is the first week (knock on wood) that NONE of us are sick.

Hope everyone feels better soon!

P.S. I let the kids eat cereal out of coffee mugs on the couch when they are sick. Maybe that's why it's been hanging on for a month....

As nasty as colds and sickness are, there are some good things about being sick. More TV, TV dinners, camping on the floor = all good things!

We've been battling the same thing! You are right. How much more kids shows can a person take? I'm pretty much saying the lines of Despicable Me along with them!
Feel better Eli! And the paci? Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do when they are sick!

Aww poor little guy -- hope he's doing better today :( Oh and good luck with the paci...that's a tough one...the whole "letting them throw it out on their own" bit worked for my son after a little whining...and a distraction -- think it was new big-boy-Cars-bedding that he got to pick out.

My little ones loved your photos in this post -- they wanted to watch THAT Dora...use THOSE cups....eat THAT food and wanted THOSE pillow pets lol -- I guess they could relate to it all -- Get better :)

The only plus I see here is that they're both sick at the same time so that worrying about the other one catching it is out of the way.

Get better little ones!

Sorry that he's sick, it's such a pain, I' hoping that he's doing better already!

As for the paci, one of the boys I watch got his paci cut off little by little, it worked like a charm.

Something I've never heard of before.

Feel better, everyone!

Oh man. I'm so sorry those little sweeties are sick. I used to warm up the bathroom and let them play in the tub sometimes when they were sick as well. Oh, my mother used to yell at me for that.

Hope they're all better now.

Poor sick babies. Don't feel bad about the paci - if it gets him through and gives some comfort - so what?

poor babies! We do exactly the same thing at our house... lots of couch laying and tv watching :)
