what 9/11 was like for me…

Image
I was just leaving for work. It was early, but our busy summer season was still in full swing and I was working long hours. As I was heading out the door I went to turn off the television. The news was on and they had one of those “breaking news” reports. They simply said that it appeared a small plane had crashed into a building in New York City. “Stay tuned for more on this developing story”. Just another day in the news. I went to work. By the time I arrived at work, maybe 10 minutes later, everything had changed. I logged onto my computer, quickly finding MSNBC. The headlines were unbelievable. The pictures and video, shocking. All I could do was sit in silence and watch the events unfold online. Co-workers arrived and many did the same thing. There was little talking. Stunned, I had no idea what to do. Do we go home? Do we try to work? Is something else going to happen? The day continued. I realized some people were actually still workin...

how was your weekend?

Over Labor Day weekend we drove to the east side of the state of Washington. We were at a hotel for the first night. And we were reminded that staying in a hotel room with a baby is never an easy task come bedtime.  So, since we didn’t care to hide in the tiny bathroom until he fell asleep we waited it out.  It was a late night.  The next day we had lofty plans of driving around to visit some of the hundreds of wineries in the area.  We made it to three.  We spent the rest of the weekend at my Grandmother’s home in Kennewick.  Hannah loved riding to the pool in the golf cart. Eli enjoyed watching the action on the golf course. Hannah is ready for fall. Thanks to Tutu for her new jammies. Speaking of Tutu, my mom (Tutu) decided to surprise us by driving to Kennewick. She is a 3-hour drive from my grandmother’s home and thus the last person I expected to see there that weekend. But, knowing my mom as I do, I should have...

Friend makin Monday #1

Image
This looks like fun so I decided to play along. You can link up to friend makin monday here . This week is a Q&A: 1. Do you cook every night? I generally cook Sunday – Thursday. Friday is pizza night. Saturday varies depending on what we are doing that day. 2. What kind of laundry detergent do you use & why? Right now I am using a “green” detergent I got from Shaklee. Why? Because I went to a Shaklee party and bought it. It seems to work well enough. But I mostly have used Tide HE. 3. Do you do laundry every day or loads at a time? Depends on how ambitious I am, but generally I do a few loads twice a week. 4. How often do you eat out per week? Generally no more than once a week. 5. Where do you usually eat out? Since we usually have the kids with us, noisy family-friendly restaurants (like Red Robin) prevail. 6. What is your favorite retail store? Target 7. What's your favorite thing to drink? Coffee/Water 8. Do you take vitamins? ...

3:00: “Hannah, time to go to the barbecue.  There will be lots of kids there!” Hannah: “I’m not going to be friends with the boys!”. 3:30: “Hannah, this is Madison” Hannah:  (complete silence, goes off to play on her own, but eventually starts playing with Madison and some other girls) 5:00 “Hannah time to head home!” Hannah:  “Awwwwww!”. 5:30:  “Hannah, what’s wrong, why do you look sad?” Hannah:  “I MISS MADISON!!  SHE’S MY BEST FRIEND!”.
