Less than 5 minutes.
Take two perfectly happy kids.
These two will do:
Add 1 bag of blocks:
Mix and spread all over the floor.
And wait.
It won’t take long.
Any second now…..
Yep, here it comes!
And then, suddenly, quiet.
And cooperation.
And all within 5 minutes!

red alert!
Be on the lookout for a shoe displacer!! Suspect is very skilled in the art of displacing your shoes!
Lock your closets! No shoe should feel safe!
UPDATE: Early this morning we nearly apprehended the suspect, but he managed to “slip” away…

new favorites
I don’t enter a lot of blog contests.
If I have time, sure.
If it’s something I really want, sure.
If it’s easy as heck to enter, absolutely!
So, when Lucy at A Modern Day Ricky and Lucy posted that she was going to give away some of her favorite things and all we had to do was leave a comment, I thought “no-brainer”.
I left a comment.
I can guess you know what’s next….
And now I have some new “favorites” of my own.
The kids and I were totally rocking out to that 80’s cd last night.
Okay, it was all me. The kids just played along.

Rock and roll
We had a lot of fun at Wicked. Great show. Great dinner.
After the performance we went to a wine bar near our hotel – their wine/drink menu was nearly 80 pages long! We were slightly overwhelmed by all the choices, but once I found the dessert page I was good to go.
I read the book the musical is based on many years back. While watching the show I realized I couldn’t remember how much it followed the book, so I located my copy and have just started reading it again.
Sunday morning we had a delicious breakfast at Bacco and walked around Pike Place Market in Seattle for a bit.
I bought Eli this shirt:
Don’t all babies need a cool rock and roll shirt?

a witchy saturday..
So excited for a night (tonight!) in Seattle with my husband and some good friends.
We are going to dinner.
We are going to a show.
We are spending the night at a hotel.
We are NOT bringing the kids.
I will share my love of musical theater some other time, but since I have had children I hardly ever go anymore. This will be the first time I’ve seen Wicked and I am going to be pretty much a giddy smiling mess when the curtain rises.
I’ll try not to sing too loud.

“How was your first day of preschool?”
“We went for a walk and saw some bats! But don’t worry mom, they were NICE bats!”.
“We didn’t have any snacks!”.
“All the gym teachers left because they had a play date!”.
“All that other stuff I said was JUST AN EXPRESSION, mom.
Of course we had snacks.
We had SMORES!!".
I believe we may have a future best-selling fictional author in our midst.
But we THINK she had a good day. I can't wait to hear all about day two!

My 200th post!
Recently I had the opportunity to sit down with one of the Pacific Northwest’s most hard to interview figures.
We met for snacks and drinks at our dining room table.
Here’s what she had to say:
Me: “What is the best part about your day?”
H: “Spending it with you”.
Me: “Aw, you’re just trying to butter me up now. What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?”.
H: “Pancakes with syrup and butter!”.
Me: “What do you like best about your mom’s blog?”
H: “What’s a blog?”
Me: “Never mind. What is your favorite place to go in the car?”
H: “To Haggen (grocery store) to get a cookie!!”
Me: “Um, maybe we go there a little too often. How about this, what is your favorite thing to do outside?”
H: “Walk in the snow, eat the snow, make snow angels!”
Me: “That sounds nice (for the maybe 6 days of the year we have snow). I am sure all our readers want to know what your favorite game is?”
H: “Don’t Break the Ice”.
Me: “Yes, that is a good one. How about a favorite book?”
H: “The New Baby”.
Me: “What is your favorite chore?”
H: “Kids don’t do chores!!!!!”.
Me: “Well, you sure help me with things around the house though.”
H: “Then I want to say putting the chocolate chips on the cake and eating some!!”.
Me: “Yes, that is very helpful”.
Me: “Where do you want to go to college when you are older?”
H: “By Bellingham, so I can be close to you!”.
Me: “We mother’s can only dream……since physical fitness is important to our family I thought you could tell our readers how you like to get your exercise?”
H: “Oh, by running and walking around and spinning and dancing. And twirling too!”
Me: “Now, I know you don’t like bugs very much. What bug do you dislike the most?”
H: “Mosquitoes and wasps. And yellow jackets and red ants. And tarantulas and spiders and the rest of the ants!”
Me: “Are there any bugs you like?”
H; “Yeah, lady bugs and potato bugs”.
Me: “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
H: “A policeman to help people when they are stuck!”.
Me: “What is your favorite holiday?”
H: “Oh, just Valentines Day and Mother’s Day. And Father’s Day. Christmas, Halloween, Birthday’s and Easter”.
Me: “So basically you haven’t met a holiday you didn’t like.”
H: “What?"
Me: “What do you think is going to be the most exciting thing about being 4?”
H: “Getting new clothes!”
Me: “I like new clothes too. Well, we should probably wrap up this interview. Anything else you would like to say to our readers?”
H: “Have a nice day!”.
