I was just leaving for work. It was early, but our busy summer season was still in full swing and I was working long hours.
As I was heading out the door I went to turn off the television. The news was on and they had one of those “breaking news” reports.
They simply said that it appeared a small plane had crashed into a building in New York City.
“Stay tuned for more on this developing story”.
Just another day in the news.
I went to work.
By the time I arrived at work, maybe 10 minutes later, everything had changed.
I logged onto my computer, quickly finding MSNBC.
The headlines were unbelievable. The pictures and video, shocking.
All I could do was sit in silence and watch the events unfold online. Co-workers arrived and many did the same thing.
There was little talking.
Stunned, I had no idea what to do. Do we go home? Do we try to work? Is something else going to happen?
The day continued. I realized some people were actually still working and carrying on with their meetings and daily tasks. I wanted to ask how they could do it, weren’t they as scared and distracted and confused as I was?
I think the work day ended early for many of us. I went home to my little apartment and spent the rest of the day glued to the news, scared and extremely anxious about what this meant for the country.
Thousands lost their lives that day. So many more lives were forever changed.
We survive. We moved on. We never forget.
The past 8 years have been wonderful ones for me. I feel very blessed to have the life that I have. I incorporated these pictures into the post because my family is my everything and I could not bear to imagine even one moment without any of them in my life.
My thoughts are with all those who are hurting today.

I don't think most of us have experienced any day quite as horrible as that one was. I just wish they had built the twin towers again, instead of making design changes.
It's so true, we are blessed by each of the days we spend with our children.
Keeping all of the survivors in my prayers today.
amen sister....we are SO BLESSED! Counting them DAILY!
blessed beyond belief
I was at a doctors appointment, I remember sitting in a full but silent waiting room with the tv on. Many people had tears running down their face.
I remember the feeling of fear as well.
I remember that day so well too...I was 18, in my first year of college, at the student health center. We saw it on the tv there, and I went back to my room to tell my roomate. Her cousin, at a college about an hour away had a dad who worked at one of the towers. We drove straight there. Somehow, he was not working there that day. My roomate's dad was a fireman in New Jersey. It all just hit so close to home. It's one of those days everyone will always remember. Good post :)
(hi, i've been here before, found you again via "Here's My Voice")
I agree, family IS everything. I didn't lose my family in the 9/11, but I did lose them, and I can tell you quite honestly that it is indeed the worst thing to ever go through.
I am glad you have those beautiful children and they are definitely important little people! :)
Teri,
What a beautiful post. And I love that picture of you and Hannah at the end of it. You are so cute, both of you!
I remember that day, too....
Mark and I were telling the kids about it last night over dinner- drawing pictures on the board, pointing out places on the map, and finally- looking at the footage online.
This morning I noticed Isaias staring up into the sky with fear-- there was an airplane flying overhead and he said he was wondering if it "was a bad one". :(
Hopefully never again.
It was such a sad day. I was home pregnant with my first daughter and DH was at work (he's also a flight attendant). I remember being so scared because I couldn't get in touch with him. It's a day that I won't ever forget.
I was talking online with friends when one of them said to turn on the tv. We all kept talking as we watched what was happening.
We were in college then and our classes even got cancelled.
Very cool to read different bloggers recollections of that day. Incorporating family in this post was perfect.
That day has forever left a mark on my heart. I feel for those people that were effected by such a tragic day.
I was getting ready for work. I was sitting on the bed and my mom was in the bathroom doing her make up {I had moved back in with her before Kyle and I got married, and shared a room with her} and I told her that a plane had just hit a building in NY. We sat and watched, stunned. But then we had to get ready to go catch a bus to Seattle {we were in Everett}. I don't remember very much about the rest of the day. I just know that everyone was talking about what had happened. A very sad day, indeed.
What a great post... I think it will be hard to ever forget that day... and I don't think we should forget either.
